Bhuj first day

By stevokeef

Background on Bhuj: It is about 100 km south of the pakistan border and a very interesting community. The man who owned the guest house had lived in Bhuj and run the guest house for 33 years and he is a really interesting guy to talk to. Scott asked him why he moved to Bhuj and he said it was because Bhuj is one of the few areas in India where there is true peace between Muslims and Hindus. I still feel like I know absolutely nothing about the religious tensions here so he was a very good person to talk to. The area around Bhuj is called Kutch. It is very sparsely populated and has a lot of relatively isolated villages. These villages were what we had read about and the main reason we went up to Bhuj. The second day in Bhuj involved a motor cycle tour of villages in the area but that will come in the next post.

The first day in Bhuj (the 28th) was pretty uneventful and the complete opposite of the second day (the 29th). On the 28th we slept until noon to make up for the bus ride the night before. In the afternoon we rented bicycles and toured around the city getting lost and dodging camels. There were lots of camels and of course the Indian standard of cows everywhere. That was that.

Hahaha dodgeing camels! Did you discover a new sport!!?? There was a camel on campus not too long ago. I think you were here during that. Ewrumizzle sent out a picmail to me of the camel that walked by her. That’s pretty sweet. I was talking with Whitney from 454 and we might go to this exotic cats place just 30min from here. It sounds like great fun!

I met a sweet dude from Saudi this last week name Kim (short for Hrikim <–not sure of spelling). He's awesome! He hasn't made it clear if he's muslim or not, but we went to a costume party and carved pumpkins together. It was a stellar time! Make a note to yourself about telling me what you learn of that hindu and muslim tension. That'd be very very very interesting to know.
